Spring and summer are closer than you think! Gasp! Who hates bathing suit shopping? Raise your hand… (if you could see me you would see that my hand is raised really high). Bathing suit shopping is the worst… but also kinda necessary. So, why not try some online sustainable brands and shop in your pjs. Help the planet and save yourself a dreaded trip to the mall! Here are four sustainable swim brands that have style I dig.
1. Swoon Swimwear- Based in the USA
I'm swooning over this swimsuit line from the Midwest! Swoon is manufactured in the USA to ensure quality, sweat shop free products.
"The fashion industry is pretty on the outside but rather ugly on the inside. Fast and cheap fashion is not environmentally friendly, exploits child labor, workers are subjected to toxic chemicals that are dumped into water ways and landfills are overflowing with yesterday’s disposable garments. Unfortunately, that great deal you got on that fast fashion t-shirt for $5.99 was most likely made in a factory full of underpaid and mistreated workers." -Swoon
Swoon just might have the best deal going because they have reversible suits, so you get two suits for the price of one! Check out this gorgeous python and stripe reversible one piece! Swoon has two bikini tops that catch my eye. The first is the wrap top, which gives the bikini top an extra detail that is eye catching and playful. The second top I love is the racer back, this is great for an active beach girl and is flattering on a lot of ladies. Bottoms come in coverage choices, including full bottom.
2. Reformation- based in LA
“Reformation’s design mission is to make effortless silhouettes that celebrate the feminine figure. The design process starts with us thinking about what we really want to wear right now. We source the most beautiful and sustainable fabrics possible to bring those designs to life quickly.”-Reformation
I'm liking the Mandalay bikini bottoms paired with the Betty bikini top in black (seen below). The look comes in two other colors, brown polka dot (seen below) and red check.
3. Jessica Rey- based in LA
This brand is named for it's founder, Jessica. The fabric is made in Italy of 100% post consumer waster- like old fishing nets. The suits are sewn in ethical sweat shop free factories in sunny LA. Her styles are full coverage (nice for moms) and super cute! She even makes swim dresses! Her aesthetic is feminine, flirty, and classically on trend. I'm digging a one piece ruffle suit in emerald green called the grace.
Bikini Empire- based in Canada
"Bikini Empire is the collaboration between twin sisters Monica and Kelsey Rush. Together they have created a swimwear line that is sexy, functional, high fashion and sweat shop free. It is ethically produced in Vancouver, Canada from fine Italian eco-fabric." - Bikini Empire
They've got a great range of one pieces, bikinis, and even a retro monokini. If you grew up in the late 80's you know what I'm talking about! I'm crushing on the Betty Draper in La-La Lavender, it's a monokini with a tie front at the bust. Check it out now before it sells out (which it probably will because it's adorable!). It's the kind of suit that looks amazing with a big sun hat and sunglasses, throw a jean skirt over it and you have another whole look.
Happy Sustainable Swimsuit Shopping!
