Spring Fashion Trends: What’s In and What’s Not in 2023

Spring has sprung!  It’s time to discuss what’s in and what’s out for 2023, Spring fashion trends are here!

I don’t consider myself a trendy person.  I wear what I like!  My hope is that you do too!  However, I don’t ever want to look dated.  I want to look classic!  With that in mind I feel it’s important to know what trends are in and out.  That way I can avoid things that will make my outfits look dated, and I can add accessories or a piece or two that will make my outfits look fresh and new!  Here are the Spring fashion trends for 2023.

Here’s my take on trends

Don’t go all out.  Never create an entire outfit of trends.  Instead, trendy pieces should be mixed in with classic pieces.  Add one or two trendy pieces to a classic outfit, and you’ll look fresh, chic, and glamorous.

Another thing to remember about trends, they don’t exist everywhere!  Yep, what’s trendy in Europe right now, may not have made it over to the USA yet.. lol!  I remember my mother always telling my sister and I when we were girls, “If they’re wearing it in Europe right now, you’ll be wearing it in a year.”  She told us this to remind us that if we wanted to be cutting edge with a trend, pick something that was popular in Europe at the time.  These days, trends move a lot faster, thanks to Social Media!  Remember that you may not be seeing a trend in your town yet, so if you want to be the style setter… add a trendy piece to one of your outfits asap!

My Favorite Spring Trends 2023

Light Purple

Light purple or lavender will be big this year.  Expect to see it everywhere.  Rather than opting for head to toe lavender, add an accessory or two in the color to a neutral outfit for a pop of color.  Lavender and white look beautiful together in the Spring and Summer.  Lavender and black will be a great combo for Fall.

Robin’s Egg Blue

A color based on nature!  Robin’s Egg Blue gets its name from the color of actual Robin’s eggs.  I love this color it’s both soothing and energizing.  I think of it as a symbol for renewal; so IMO it’s a perfect Spring color.  Try a dress or a blouse in this color.

Double Denim

I’ve always been a fan!  Double denim is actually not hard to pull off!  The trick is not to match the denims exactly.  Go for a top and bottom in the same color family, just slightly different shades.  If they match exactly I don’t think it works.

My take on double denim

Wide Leg Jeans

It’s time to break up with your skinnies!  Wide leg jeans done correctly look amazing on everyone!  Tips: don’t go too wide, opt for a lighter wash, wear them with sneakers for a cute casual look.  If you just can’t do wide leg jeans, try a straight leg jean instead.

Classic Button Up Shirts

Button up shirts never really go out of style.  I like to layer mine over a tank top or use as a cover up in the Summer and Spring.

Straw Bags/Totes

When you’re carrying a straw bag you will feel instantly transported to the sun washed streets of the French Rivera.  This is definitely one of my favorite Spring fashion trends for 2023.

Chunky Jewelry

I love chunky jewelry!  This trend is a nod to the 90’s.  Big pieces in tones of silver and gold will be popular this year.  Try a wide cuff bracelet or big hoop earrings.

Cottagecore Dresses

I love Cottagecore dresses so much that I wrote a entire post about them!  Check it out!

Geometric & Angular Eyewear

Vintage vibes are my vibe.  I love this trend.  Think Grace Kelly or 1950s Barbie!

Anything French

French style is super trendy right now.  Which is kind of ironic if you ask me!  French style prides itself on being classic and not trendy, so for it to be trendy is funny to me!  I’ve always gravitated towards French Style because it’s classic.  Here’s a post I recently wrote about French Style: French Girl Style for Spring

Historical Details

High collars, lace, maximalist prints are all in for 2023.  I’m in LOVE with this trend, because I love anything with a historical or vintage feel.  This is another one of my favorite Spring fashion trends.

What’s Out for Spring Trends 2023

Skinny Jeans

I know, it’s really happening.  We’ve been wearing them for over a decade a now.  But, it’s time to say goodbye.  Don’t fret though.  The kind of skinny jeans I’m talking about are the kind that are super tight, almost like leggings.  A nice pair of straight legs jeans is in!  If you don’t want to try wide leg jeans, opt for a pair of straight leg jeans and you won’t look dated!

Tunics

I’m not sad about this one.  Honestly, I don’t think anyone looks good in a tunic.  I don’t get tunics, just wear a dress.  To me tunics scream frumpy.  I would ditch the tunics, and the leggings underneath!

Distressed Jeans

A frayed hem is still acceptable.  Anything more than that is out.  Ditch the jeans with holes, tears, and rips.

All Over Animal Print

You can still wear animal print.  IMO leopard is a neutral.  Don’t wear leopard head to toe.  Instead, pick one leopard piece and make everything else neutral.

Shackets

Shackets are out.  I never got on the shacket trend, so no big deal to me.  However, if you were/are a shacket lover don’t despair!  Try a cardigan instead.  Similar feel, but with a more classic and sophisticated feel!
