Espadrilles

We’ve had some unexpected wintery weather here in Florida this weekend. One of the things I love about our Florida climate is being able to mix seasonal wardrobe items. Today I paired my new pair of “summery” lace-up espadrilles with skinny jeans and a light-weight cashmere sweater. It was the perfect mix of summer and winter for a chilly spring Florida day!

Espadrilles are certainly a summer staple. I think they are clearly a classic style must have. They never go out of style; and there are tons of styles and heel heights, to choose from. They are native to Spain, and are really a Spanish folk art in a way. The soles of the shoes are what make them espadrilles and are the defining factor in whether a shoe is an espadrille or not. A true espadrille is made with esparto rope. Esparto is a grass which is native to Southern Europe and North Africa. They date back for centuries in Spain and were the common footwear of peasants since the middle ages. Espadrilles have been a modern style staple since the 1960’s.

My cute new pair are a sneaker style that I purchased at target. At only $19 they are a style steal! Women’s Teala Laser Cut Lace-Up Sneaker Espadrille. My jeans are old and are from Joe’s Jeans. Here’s a similar pair- The Icon-mid rise ankle skinny jeans. My sweater is 100% cashmere from Bloomingdale’s Aqua line- and I snagged it on sale after Christmas! It’s still available and still on sale! Aqua- Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater.

Check back later this week for my favorite lace-up espadrilles picks for Spring!
