5 Summer Skin Care Tips For Glowing Skin

Summer Skin is Glowing Skin!

Summer is a fun time to unwind, relax, and enjoy the warm weather. Unfortunately, summertime can also be a rough season for your skin, especially if you’re not following the right summer skin care routine. Yet, just because it’s summertime doesn’t mean you’re destined for acne-ridden, sun damaged skin. Read on to learn the top summer skin care tips you need to use to keep your skin looking healthy and glowy all summer long.

1. Apply Sunscreen with SPF 30 or Higher

Arguably the most important summer skin care tips on this list: apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher frequently! Sun damage is one of the top skin concerns you face during the summertime.  Although you should always be applying sunscreen year-round, it is especially essential to apply it during the summer months.  And, applying sunscreen doesn’t just stop at your face! Don’t forget to apply sunscreen thoroughly throughout any areas of your body that may be exposed to the Sun. Also, don’t forget to apply it to your hands, feet, ears, and lips.

2. Don’t Skip the Moisturizer

Although it may be hot and humid out, this doesn’t mean you just get to skip applying your moisturizer. You should be applying moisturizer regularly, even if you have more of an oily skin type or tend to sweat a lot in the summer. This is because a moisturizer nourishes and hydrates the skin, while also working to protect your skin from irritation and dryness. Also, if you normally use a thicker moisturizer during the cold winter months, consider opting for a more lightweight, breathable moisturizer.

3. Exfoliate Thoroughly

Exfoliating is another crucial summer skin care routine step you don’t want to forget! During the summertime, excess oil, dead skin cells, sweat, and sunscreen will accumulate on your face.  This not only clogs your pores but puts you at an increased risk of developing some pretty nasty breakouts.  To combat this, use a gentle exfoliator that helps get rid of this excess gunk on your face so you can limit your risk of developing breakouts while also achieving smoother, softer, glowing skin in the process.

4. Avoid Overwashing Your Face

Next, resist the urge to constantly be washing your face more than usual (i.e. 1-2 times per day). While you may be sweating more than usual during the summer months, if you are constantly overwashing your face, this strips your face of its natural oils and will only make
matters worse for your skin.  Additionally, because you are sweating more during the summer months, try washing your face thoroughly. This includes washing the sides of your face and along your hairline. Otherwise, you run the risk of developing breakouts along those areas that were missed.

5. Less Is More

Last but not least, keep the number of summer skin care products and makeup products you apply to a minimum. This does not mean eliminating entire steps of your summer skin care routine. Rather, this means combining products and transitioning from thicker formulas to more  lightweight skin care products when possible.  For example, rather than using a facial sunscreen, moisturizer, and foundation (if you are applying makeup), consider using a tinted moisturizer with SPF. This not only simplifies your makeup and summer skin care routine from three products down to one, but it helps make your skin look and feel more lightweight and breathable.
