Holiday Volunteer Ideas for Kids

Tis the season to get involved!  If you are looking for ways to help your kids get involved in their community and serve others look no further.  I helped my students (I’m a Social Studies teacher) come up with this amazing list.  Each item on the list is linked to a website that gives kids and families resources to complete the activity.  This list was created by my Middle School Civics Club members!

It is amazing and so exciting to find out that there are so many sites and organizations out there to help kids get involved in their communities.  I am honored to be able to find these resources and share them with you!

  1. Collect food for a local food drive
  2. Make art or cards for kids at a local hospital
  3. Write a letter to a soldier
  4. Collect and donate toys to a toy drive or hold a virtual toy drive
  5. Write a letter to an elderly person in a nursing home
  6. Play a game with friends or family
  7. Adopt a child for the holidays- purchase items from a gift list
  8. Teach a peer something you are skilled in or have experience with
  9. Collect pet food for the animal shelter
  10. Visit the animal shelter and say hi! Adopt a pet (if your parents agree!)

I hope you enjoy this list of holiday volunteer ideas for kids!  Volunteering is a healthy and educational experience for kids.  It boosts their self esteem, develops empathy, and increases their background knowledge.  There is ZERO downside to kids volunteering!  Imagine how different our country and world would be if every kid found a way to serve others!
