Style Diaries 12.1.23- Holiday Party Outfit

“I feel like Jackie Kennedy in 1968 in this dress.”  The exact thing I said to my mother in the fitting room when trying on today’s dress.  In early November my mom, my youngest son, and I all went to the mall.  He usually doesn’t like to go shopping, but today I promised to buy him a new pair of shoes that he wanted so he agreed.  On the way to the shoe store we passed Lilly Pulitzer store.  As a life long Floridian I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t care for Lilly.  I’ve loved Lilly dresses since high school.  I wore my first one to sorority recruitment at FSU.  Over the years I’ve had a lot of Lilly dresses and other items.  As I’ve aged I’ve grown out of the bright floral patterns a bit, as well as the short and poufy dresses.  But, there is still a lot about Lilly that I love.

I saw this dress on the mannequin was instantly drawn to pattern and simplicity of the fabric.  I loved the navy blue and the hint of sparkle in the silver thread.  I’ve been really into solid colors lately, especially black.  I liked how this dress was slight departure from that, with a bit of holiday flare, but overall still simplistic.  I wasn’t really shopping for a holiday outfit, but the dress was so eye-catching I figured I’d try it on.

After trying it on, I knew it was winner.  I love the waist line, it’s almost empire waist sitting just a bit lower, so you still get a look of the pulled in waist.  The flow of the fabric, the sleeves, and the low cut neckline are all flattering.  Of course, to me the dress has a vintage feel and I can imagine Jackie Kennedy wearing something similar in the 1960s.

I had the dress hemmed, so it just barely allowed my toes to be seen.  After finishing off the look with some Loeffler Randall inspired shoes from Amazon and an old gold clutch from my closet the look was complete!  This dress is a stunner and will be reappearing at Christmas time for years to come!  It’s really the perfect holiday party outfit!
