How to Recreate 70’s Summer Style like Brigitte Bardot

The style icon status of Brigitte Bardot (BB) is undeniable.  Before she retired in the 90’s to her beachy retreat in Southern France she managed to keep her look relevant and classic throughout the years.  In fact there isn’t a look from any of the decades she was active that wouldn’t look fabulous in 2021.  Countless articles have been written about BB’s style; in fact this is at least the third one I’ve written about BB.  A few years ago I was on a gingham kick and I wrote about BB’s love of gingham in the 1950s.  For today’s post I chose to use BB’s 1970s summer style as my inspiration.

In the 1970s BB was in her 40s and still looking incredibly beautiful.  She embraced the more the natural fabrics and fibers of the the day, a juxtaposition from the “new” synthetic fibers so popular in the 1960s.  The 70s was also the time in BB’s life that she was becoming more passionate about animals and the environment so 70s style was a perfect compliment to her changing lifestyle.

To recreate her natural, a bit bohemian, and comfortable yet chic summer style you need the following:

Here is how I recreated her 70’s style.  I went with a red tiered maxi dress, gold Tory Burch Miller sandals, simple gold hoop earrings, and a straw basket bag from Sezane.  Here’s an updated take on the red tiered maxi dress.
